Question by ALLEN: How to remove the side mirror for 2001 Volvo S40?
I have a small chip at the plastic part of the mirror and would like to remove the mirror to fix it. Would someone be able to post step by step instructions on how to remove the passenger side mirror? Thanks
The mirror is actually okay. What happened is that there is a crack in the black pastic base of the side mirror assembly. I am hoping by remove the mirror, I can fix it by gluing the crack back together from the inside.

INSIDE THE CAR at the corner of the door /the other side of the mirror/ is a plastic cover-use a skinny flat head screwdriver & gently pry open the plastic-there are 3 posts that have a fat head that have to be popped out so be careful cause they can break- the post are in a triangle position- so try to move slow- once the cover is off there is a torx screw #25 to remove the screws 2-3 and your good,,, o.k. so did U look at it & decide what 2 do? just be careful not to drop it & use tape when your finished,,,

Protect your eyes with eye protection goggles of some sort.Having chips of glass in your eyes isn’t something know one wants to experience.Since your replacing it with a new one,i assume,it’s ok to damage only the glass and not any mechanical components attached to it.If a strong plastic or wooden stick is handy, turn the mirror from the left side with your hands or inside as far as possible. With the the stick have insert it at the right side and try prying it out but don’t stick it too far behind the glass cause u can damage the motor.Look inside where the stick is just to make sure only the mirror is coming out.It will feel like it wont come out…it always wants to give people a hard time if u never done before…just be patient.Experiment by removing it from the other side.If the mirror breaks don’t freak out.Breaking only the mirror will allow u to see how it is attached and can prevent u from breaking the new mirror during installment.Let me know if u have questions.
