This is a 1997 Silverado Z71 extended cab with the 5.7 liter engine and it is 4WD. I don’t want to break something when I remove the panel. What is holding the panel on and how do you remove it?

Open the door on that side on a busy street. Let someone hit it, collect the insurance and get it fixed that way. I am a girl and really don’t any other way but let my dad try to fix it.

  1. Scooby says:

First look deep inside with a flash light and look for screws, then use a long screw driver.
Sometimes there aren’t any screws and they are snap-ons, and u just need to work it off, if you break it use crazy glue to fix. Also a mechanic can give you an estimate and tell you how to take it apart, the are usually pretty cool that way (go to a smaller shop)

  2. feature000 says:

There are two screws on the arm rest, and the rest is a bunch of plastic clips that snap into another plastic clip on the door itself. Around the door handle there is another piece you have to take off. I us ally use knife and go along the inside of it pushing the clips out of where the handle is, then that piece will come off its really not to hard. Most of the time the plastic clips holding the door panel on will break, but you can buy them at the dealer for a couple of bucks maybe Evan an auto parts place will have them.

Hubby has same truck…the answers from the two guys above are right…good luck with it…I’ve never heard so many bad words when he was trying to get it off!!!!

  4. schnauzerface says:

If you have the small triangular panel that is behind the mirror, slide a screwdriver carefully behind it & pop it straight off. You can get the mirror changed from there.

If if you need to remove the trim panel, there are 3 screws, one phillips behind the sliding manual lock lever, one 7mm under the handle, and another 7mm under the power window switch plate.
Use a small flat screwdriver to carefully pry the necessary covers off for access. You will also need to remove the cover from around the inside handle.
The trim panel will lift straight up when the screws are removed. (don’t pry on the trim panel or pull it toward you, it will break the tabs that hold it in place.)
